Chris Yurasek, Director
Welcome to the Decatur High School Choir! My name is Chris Yurasek and I am excited and honored to start my 9th year here at DHS and 22nd year of being a choir director. I first learned about the joy of singing when my piano teacher demanded that I sing country music at the Rosenburg Opry. In High School my love for music grew since I was a two-year member of the All-State Choir. This was a life-changing experience, and I immediately decided that I wanted to share the thrill of singing in choir with future generations. I moved to Fort Worth to study music at Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!) where I met the woman of my dreams, my wife, Clare Yurasek, who teaches choir at McCarroll Middle School. While at TCU I performed with the top choir, TCU Chorale, the University Choral Union, Vocal Jazz, and the TCU Chamber Choir. After I graduated from TCU, my passion for singing continued by performing as both a professional and a volunteer singer with different choirs throughout the DFW area.
I believe that singing choral music is the most well-rounded activity in existence. It requires the knowledge and academic study of reading music, the passion of artistry, and the ability to relate to others as a part of a team. Besides that, it is FUN! I can't wait to share this passion with you and help you grow as a singer in the DHS Choral Program. GO EAGLES!
