Dr. Judi Whitis, Superintendent

  • Dr W Dr. Judi Whitis began serving as Superintendent of Decatur ISD in July 2017 and is quickly gaining the admiration, trust and respect of the Decatur community.  She is a former collegiate track athlete, classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent in Burnet and Lampasas ISDs, and superintendent at Valley Mills and Fort Davis ISDs.  Dr. Whitis is a graduate of Angelo State University and later earned her doctorate degree from Texas Tech University.

Decatur ISD is a proud public school district that serves over 3,100 students and almost 450 employees. Dr. Whitis has 29 years in public education, the last five of which she has served as superintendent.

The Superintendent is an experienced and accomplished leader with a proven track record of ensuring quality education through engaging and empowering teachers and administrators within her district. She strives to foster an environment where trust is built on a foundation of shared responsibility and a culture of respect.

With culture in mind, she rolled out DISD’s core values at our 2017 Convocation for all staff. In fact, it was Dr. Whitis who identified that DISD needed to establish and communicate core values for all employees to emulate in support of students. These core values of commitment to excellence, community, high expectations, opportunities, and relationships will be the foundation for DISD.

Because of her commitment to student success, Dr. Whitis was recently nominated to serve on the “Future-Ready Superintendent Leadership Network” within Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA).  This network was established to create and sustain a cadre of courageous, visionary superintendents willing to expand their leadership beyond the local level and propel public schools forward.

Dr. Whitis and her husband, David, are the proud dog parents of Cosmo, a yorkie.   David is a retired Sheriff of Lampasas County and currently works for the Texas Association of Counties augmenting the efforts of county officials across the great state of Texas.
