DECATUR, TX – Decatur ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Steven Huff has announced his resignation. Coach Huff will officially conclude his time with DISD at the end of April before transitioning to his new leadership role at Chickasha Public Schools in Oklahoma, allowing him to be closer to family.

Since his arrival in February 2022, Coach Huff has been the architect of a significant athletic resurgence for Decatur. His creative vision and strategic planning aligned district goals with community values through the recruitment and mentorship of elite coaching staff and student support. This leadership fostered an era of phenomenal success, where every sport achieved post-season play in all four years of his tenure.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve the Decatur community and lead these exceptional student-athletes,” said Huff. “My goal from day one was to create a positive sports environment where our athletes could thrive. These milestones were only possible because of the dedication and relentless work ethic of our staff and players. While I am excited for this new chapter, I will always cherish the 'Eagle Pride' and the relationships built here.”

Under Huff’s leadership, the Eagles became a mainstay in the deep rounds of the Texas high school playoffs. Among his accomplishments in football, the Varsity Eagles secured back-to-back UIL State Semi-Finalist appearances in 2022 and 2023, while also leading the program to Area Finalist finish in 2024 and a Regional Quarter-Finalist run in 2025. He was twice named the 8-4A Coach of the Year.

Beyond the gridiron, Huff’s guidance supported back-to-back UIL State Championships for both Lady Eagles Volleyball and Basketball during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Under his watch, student-athletes consistently broke school records, advanced to playoffs, achieved personal best times, and secured team and individual UIL medals, cementing a legacy of excellence across the entire Decatur ISD athletic department.

"Coach Huff arrived at a pivotal moment for Decatur athletics and leaves our programs stronger, more unified, and consistently competitive on the state stage," said Superintendent Taylor Williams. "His dedication to the growth of our student-athletes, both on and off the field, has left an indelible mark on our community. We wish him the very best in his next chapter."

Decatur ISD will begin the search for a new athletic director and head football coach immediately. The district remains committed to maintaining the high standards of excellence established during Coach Huff's tenure and ensuring a smooth transition for all student-athletes.
