Decatur ISD is proud to announce the appointment of Montie Parker as the district's new interim director of special education.

An K-12 leader throughout Texas, Parker brings nearly three decades of dedicated experience in public education and special education administration to the role.

“We are incredibly fortunate to bring an administrator of Montie’s high caliber to Decatur ISD to lead our special education department during this transition,” said Superintendent Taylor Williams. “Montie is a deeply respected leader throughout the state of Texas, bringing unmatched expertise in school psychology, special education law, and program supervision. His immediate availability ensures our students, families, and staff will experience seamless, top-tier support as we begin the upcoming school year.”

Most recently, Parker served as the executive director of special services for Allen ISD, a position he held since 2016. His extensive background also includes service as director of special education for Coppell ISD and as director of special services for Sulphur Springs ISD.

A prominent figure in special education advocacy across Texas, Parker has also served as a board member and state president of the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education from 2013 to 2019. He has also contributed to the preparation of future educators, serving as an adjunct faculty member at both the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.

“I have dedicated my entire professional career to supporting the advancement of special populations in public education at the local, state, and national levels,” said Parker. “I am honored to step into this interim role and look forward to partnering with Decatur ISD's families and talented staff to ensure every student has the resources and environment they need to thrive.”

Parker began his career in 1997 as a history, algebra, and special education teacher. He holds a Master of Science in school psychology and supervision of special education and a Bachelor of Science in history and special education. Additionally, he holds both his Texas principal and superintendent certifications.

In this position, Parker will also support the district in its search for a new special education director, as well as perform program reviews and a continuum of service evaluation. Parker replaces Jennifer Terrell, who was recently tapped to serve as the district’s new Blended Learning Grant Coordinator.
