DECATUR, Texas — Decatur ISD has named Steve Espolt as the district’s new Emergency Management Coordinator. Espolt most recently served as the safety and security coordinator for Ponder ISD.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to keep the students and staff of Decatur ISD safe,” said Espolt. “I’m looking forward to making the Decatur family feel as protected as possible by updating protocols and procedures to best fit the community’s needs.”
Espolt brings more than two decades of dedicated experience in public education, campus safety, and district-wide operations to Decatur ISD. Since 2010, he has served neighboring Ponder ISD in multiple key administrative and operational leadership capacities, including Coordinator of Safety and Security, Coordinator of Transportation, Facilities, Safety and Security, and Dean of Students at Ponder High School.
“The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and campuses is of upmost importance, and Steve Espolt brings the ideal blend of operational expertise, calm leadership, and hands-on school safety experience to this position,” said Superintendent Taylor Williams. “Steve’s deep understanding of safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and campus culture makes him exceptionally qualified to oversee our district’s safety initiatives. We are thrilled to welcome him to Decatur and look forward to the leadership and experience he will bring to our team.”
Prior to his tenure in Ponder, Espolt spent six years with Little Elm ISD as a junior high athletic coordinator, science teacher, and AVID coordinator. He began his career in public education in 2003 with Tecumseh ISD. In addition to his administrative and safety roles, Espolt has spent over 20 years in the classroom teaching physics, UT OnRamps physics, and integrated physics and chemistry, while also serving as a varsity football and baseball coach.
Espolt holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in Secondary Science from Saint Gregory’s University. His professional qualifications include composite and general science certifications, training in Capturing Kids’ Hearts, and Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP).
Espolt resides in Krum with his wife, Elizabeth. They are the proud parents of twins, Karsten and Mikayla.
