Elective Course Descriptions
Principles of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (High School Credit)
This is the introductory course for any student pursuing a Business and Industry endorsement through the Agriculture,Food, and Natural Resources career cluster. To prepare for success, students need to have opportunities to learn,reinforce, experience, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings in which this coursespecifically targets the four main sectors of agriculture; animal sciences, horticulture sciences, agriculture mechanics, and civic leadership. This course allows students to develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities,personal development, globalization, industry standards, and best practices used in a variety of agricultural fields.
Students will also have the option to join the FFA organization where they will develop leadership and communicationskills as well as the opportunity to participate in the animal industry through livestock showing or career development events
Principles of Hospitality & Tourism (High School Credit)
Principles of Hospitality and Tourism introduces students to an industry that encompasses lodging, travel and tourism,recreation, amusements, attractions, and food/beverage operations. Students learn knowledge and skills focusing on communication, time management, and customer service that meet industry standards. Students will explore the history of the hospitality and tourism industry and examine characteristics needed for success in that industry.
Engineering Essentials (High School Credit)
Students explore the breadth of engineering career opportunities and experiences as they solve engaging and challenging real-world problems like creating a natural relief center system or creating a solution to improve the safety and well-being of local citizens.
Principles of Health Science (High School Credit)
This course is designed to provide students an overview of the therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, biotechnology research, and development systems of the healthcare industry along with the requirements necessary to further their education to succeed in current or emerging healthcare professions.
Digital Media (Yearbook; must apply) (High School Credit)
In Digital Media, students will analyze and assess current and emerging technologies, while designing and creating multimedia projects that address customer needs and resolve a problem. Students will implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment. The knowledge and skills acquired and practiced will enable students to successfully perform and interact in a technology-driven society.
S.O.A.R (must apply) (High School Credit)
This course will enable students to investigate careers and college opportunities. Each student is expected to complete the knowledge and skills essential for success in high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand for selected careers through life experiences, trade school or college opportunities. Students will focus on interpersonal skills to be successful in all class courses. Students will also explore college and career requirements and opportunities through college visits and research projects.
