Facility Planning Timeline and Committee Process

October 2020- Facility Planning Committee convenes

  • Purpose and Charge

    • The committee served in an advisory role to assist the district staff and Board of Trustees to assess and prioritize district needs.

    • Considered the educational needs of all students and aligned with the district’s mission, vision and goals.

    • Representative of the entire community, its values and perceptions in the facility planning process.

    • Assessed and prioritized the district’s current and long-term facility needs, including, but not limited to:

      • Building age, safety and condition

      • District growth and capacity

      • Evolving educational delivery and programs

      • Bring forward recommendations to the Board of Trustees as to how to proceed with a long-range plan.

August 2021- Facility Planning Committee pauses

  • The committee met six times.

  • Staffing turnover at the central office level and turmoil within the district led the committee to delay the calling of a bond and pause the committee work.

October 2022- Facility Planning Committee / Bond Committee reconvenes

  • Work resumed; the committee, now comprised of previous members and new members voted unanimously to use the prior committees foundational work in order to move forward as a bond committee.

  • The committee met six times.

  • January 18, 2023 the committee presented a recommendation to the DISD school board.

  • Board of Trustees Facility Tours

  • February 6, 2023 upon board request the committee presented follow up data in a workshop session.

  • February 8, 2023 the DISD board of trustees voted to call for a bond election on May 6, 2023 for the total amount of $331,216,000. Proposition A is for school facilities and infrastructure. Proposition B is for instructional technology devices.
