DECATUR, Texas — Decatur ISD has named Tanya Ledger as the new principal for the STEM Academy at Enis Elementary School, effective starting Monday, July 14. The move is a reassignment for Ledger, who currently serves as the principal for Rann Elementary School and will start just in time for the new school year, which begins Aug. 6.
“Tanya Ledger will be a wonderful addition to the team at STEM Elementary, and we’re excited for what she will bring to this campus,” said Superintendent Taylor Williams. “Her dedication and expertise will undoubtedly continue to elevate the student experience at STEM and tap into the existing talent of its teachers and staff.”
A passionate educator with over 20 years in education, Ledger has served at the helm of Rann since 2021. Among her accomplishments, she built a culture of belonging, care, and grit that increased parent involvement and that developed systems for students to flourish academically – resulting in an upgrade from the Texas Education Agency that removed the school's previous “Improvement Required” status.
“I’m immensely excited for this new chapter and opportunity to serve the Decatur community in a new way,” said Ledger. “This district is home for me, and I am committed to building a culture at STEM where students want to go to school, staff want to serve, and families both trust the school and are proud to send their kids.”
Prior to her time in DISD, Ledger served as an elementary classroom teacher, reading interventionist, campus instructional teacher, and an assistant principal within Northwest ISD. Ledger is a member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, and her achievements have included campus Teacher of the Year and a distinction of a Pearson Education Model Classroom. She earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies - elementary education from the University of North Texas in 1997 and her master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University in 2016.
A lifelong Wise County resident who now lives in Decatur, she and her husband, Priestly, have been married for 29 years and are parents to adult sons Braden and Christian. Outside of work, she can often be found enjoying time with family or watching a football game.
Ledger will succeed STEM’s former principal, Stephanie Quarles, who recently announced her departure to serve as the assistant superintendent for Paradise ISD. The search process will begin for a new principal at Rann Elementary.
