The State of Texas has implemented new rules that impact school districts like Decatur ISD and our ability to provide certain healthcare and counseling services to students during the school day.
During the recent 89th Texas Legislative Sessions, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 12. This bill, as written, requires school districts to obtain parental consent each year before providing routine health services or routine counseling services, and before allowing participation in certain school-based clubs. There is not a provision for common-sense care in the bill, and we are required to follow the law as written. The only clear exceptions are during emergencies.
To complete these required consent forms, log into your Skyward Family Access Account. You will see the notification regarding Online Forms (located on the left side of the screen) for each of your students. All three forms must be completed and submitted for each student.
Thank you to the families have already received and signed these forms. However, we are sending a reminder email for families who may be unaware. If you have any questions about the consent forms, please reach out to your child's school nurse or counselor.
