The Decatur ISD is proud to announce Julio Hernandez as the new assistant principal at Rann Elementary, following formal ratification by the DISD Board of Trustees during its Sept. 22 regular meeting. Hernandez, a bilingual educator who is fluent in English and Spanish, has 12 years of experience in education and will begin serving in this role immediately.

“We are thrilled to welcome Julio Hernandez to the Rann Elementary team,” said Superintendent Taylor Williams. “As many in our community are aware, we were determined to find the right person to fill this incredible role and, as such, it took our team a few weeks to conclude this search. We have found that person in Mr. Hernandez. His extensive experience and passion for student success will be a tremendous asset. And his commitment to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families aligns perfectly with our district's values.”

A dedicated educator, Hernandez has served in various capacities, including as a teacher and coach at Hutchinson Middle School in Lubbock ISD, and as an assistant principal and most recently, a campus principal at Shallowater ISD.

His commitment to student success was recognized when he was selected as teacher of the year at Hutchinson Middle School and later, as a district teacher of the year in 2017.

"I am excited to be a part of and serve a great school in a great school district,” said Hernandez. “Rann is filled with enthusiastic teachers and staff who love students, and I look forward to working with the Rann Elementary team to support our students and continue the tradition of excellence."

Hernandez is an active member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University.

Outside of work, Hernandez enjoys spending time with his wife of 10 years, and their two children, who will also attend Rann Elementary. As a family, they love to explore the outdoors, try new foods, and cheer on the Red Raiders.

Hernandez replaces Annalysa Elledge, who was promoted to serve as the principal at Rann this summer following the appointment of the former principal, Tanya Ledger, to the district’s STEM Academy at Enis Elementary.
