Dear Carson Families and Decatur ISD Community,
At Carson Elementary, we value working with the students and families which we serve. The responsibility that comes with that is important, and consists of many layers -- student safety, school security, academic learning, social and emotional growth, physical well-being, etc. While we are proud of what we do in so many areas, we have serious needs in the area of academics that require an urgent response.
You may have seen that in the most recent Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability system ratings, we scored a "D" for the fourth consecutive year. While this is a disappointing score that frustrates us all, we do not feel it reflects the great things happening in our building. While we fell just one point short of a C with a score of 69, our goal is to surpass this as we continue to aim higher. A bright spot is that the 69 represents a five-point burst of growth as compared to the previous 2024-25 school year's score, despite the challenges we all faced last year -- moving to a shorter schedule, brand new curricula in 3 out of 4 subject areas, adjusting to new assessments, etc. I am proud of our teachers and our kids for demonstrating that growth!
What happens next is what is called a Turnaround Plan (TAP, for short). A TAP is an action plan that supports the typical campus improvement plan that is done every year, and ensures that campus and district efforts are aligned toward student performance and growth. Here is where you come in. You are a valuable resource of information--you are raising the kids that grace our halls, and you undoubtedly have thoughts and opinions on what is going well and what is concerning when it comes to your child's learning.
In order to best inform our TAP, your input is incredibly valuable to us!

Join us in the Carson library on September 28 at 6 p.m. for a public meeting where we will discuss components of the TAP and some of the feedback gathered up to that point.
