Rann Grant Teacher Award Recipients ar pictured together holding their giant checks

Innovation was the theme of the day at Rann Elementary as the Decatur ISD Education Foundation’s "Surprise Squad" marched into the building to celebrate three visionary grant projects. With a total of $6,088.47 awarded to Rann educators, the campus is set to introduce high-tech classroom tools and a "Shark Tank" style competition for its oldest students.

From "Shark Tank" to First Grade Tech

Two Rann Teachers celebrate their grant awardsA major highlight of the visit was the awarding of a $2,500.00 grant to the team of Dawn Joiner, Annalysa Elledge (Rann principal), and Tiffany Bearden. Their project, "The Big Pitch: Fifth Grade Shark Tank," will allow students to step into the shoes of entrepreneurs, developing business ideas and pitching them to a panel of "sharks." This hands-on experience in critical thinking and public speaking was made possible through the generosity of the Stanley W. Ekstrom Foundation.

Technology was also at the forefront of the day’s awards. Kaysie Patton received $2,056.47 for "Advancing Digital Literacy," funded by the Cocanougher Foundation, while Jasmine Walker was awarded $1,532.00 for a "Tech-Ready 1st Grade Classroom." This project, funded by SaltLogix, will ensure that Rann’s youngest learners have access to the digital tools necessary for a modern education.

A Message from the Foundation

The grants are part of the Foundation’s record-breaking March giveaway, which saw nearly $90,000 distributed across the district. These funds are sourced through community donations and the popular Adopt-a-Grant program.

"The creativity coming out of Rann Elementary is truly inspiring," said Monique Bird, Executive Director of the Decatur ISD Education Foundation. "Whether it’s preparing first graders for a digital world or giving fifth graders the platform to pitch their own business ideas, these teachers are going above and beyond. We are honored to partner with donors who see the value in fueling that level of innovation."

Community and Leadership

The effort to support these classroom dreams is led by Bird and Board President Blake Haney, along with a dedicated board of directors including Andria Williams and other community leaders. Their mission remains focused on providing Decatur teachers with the resources they need to create exceptional learning environments.
