DECATUR, Texas — Decatur ISD is proud to welcome Myles James as its new Chief Financial Officer. The DISD Board of Trustees formally approved his appointment during its regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 19. James will officially assume his duties on Nov. 2.
James comes to Decatur ISD from Muleshoe ISD, where he has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Finance since May 2021. In that role, he led all district business and financial operations, including annual budget development, fiscal planning, purchasing, PEIMS reporting, and state and federal compliance. During his tenure, James also directed food service operations and provided fiscal oversight for key capital improvements, notably including an $8 million indoor athletic facility funded through the district’s fund balance.
“We are excited to welcome Myles James to the Decatur ISD leadership team,” said Superintendent Taylor Williams. “Myles brings a strong track record of fiscal discipline, transparency, and strategic planning, paired with a collaborative approach that prioritizes student and staff needs. His certified school business credentials and deep understanding of Texas public school finance make him exceptionally well-prepared to steward our district’s resources. We also extend our profound gratitude to Gary Micinski for his dedicated interim service over our finances. Having Gary partner with Myles over the coming months guarantees Decatur ISD will not miss a beat during this transition.”
To ensure district-wide financial continuity, James’ tenure willoverlap with Interim CFO Gary Micinski, who will assist in onboarding and leading a seamless transition through the fall semester before officially departing to re-enter retirement later this school year.
“I am truly honored to join Decatur ISD and look forward to serving the families, staff, and taxpayers of this community,” said James. “Decatur has a proud tradition of excellence, and my focus will be on maintaining fiscal transparency, accountability, and strategic financial planning to ensure our resources directly impact student success in the classroom. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Gary Micinski during this transition period. Gary has provided outstanding leadership for our district, and I look forward to building upon that strong foundation as we prepare for Decatur’s bright future.”
Prior to entering central office administration, James spent nearly a decade in Texas public education as a classroom teacher and coach. He taught secondary sciences and served on coaching staffs at Olton High School, Castleberry High School, and Lamesa ISD.
James is a Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA) through the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). He holds a Master of Education in Administration (2021) and completed his Superintendent Certification (2023) through Lamar University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA in both programs. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University in 2010.
Active in community service, James is a former president of the Muleshoe Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Bailey County Stock Show Board, and a member of the Rotary Club. He and his wife, Brandi, have three children: Taylee, Jevin, and Tynslee.
