DECATUR, TX – Decatur ISD is proud to announce Andrew Hohman as the new principal for Young Elementary. Hohman, who has experience in special education, school counseling, and K-12 leadership, was named by the Board of Trustees during a special meeting on July 29. His appointment is effective immediately and will allow him to start in time for the new school year.

"We are truly pleased to welcome Andrew Hohman to Young Elementary," said Superintendent Taylor Williams. "Andrew has a unique caliber of expertise across all campus levels, and his proven leadership and dedication to academic excellence makes him an exceptional choice. We are confident that his vision and commitment to student success for all learners will greatly benefit our students, staff, and community."

Hohman’s background in education is extensive.

He most recently served as principal of Springtown High School. There, he leveraged data analysis to drive instructional decision-making and student achievement, while also establishing a staff-led initiative to enhance staff morale, student culture, safety and security, and academic performance. His selection as Young’s principal is a full circle moment⸺he started his career 15 years ago as an elementary special education teacher in Lake Worth ISD.

"I honestly couldn’t be more excited to return to the elementary level," shared Hohman. "There’s something really special about working with younger students and helping shape the foundation of their learning. I’m looking forward to being part of a dedicated team and supporting the great work already happening on campus. This opportunity to serve the Decatur community truly means a lot to me. I want to help build a school culture where students love learning, staff feel valued and supported, and families feel confident and proud to send their kids here each day."

His experience also includes service as a principal and a special education coordinator within Bridgeport ISD, as a middle school assistant principal and a middle school counselor within Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, as an elementary school counselor for Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, and as a special education teacher and lead case manager within Garland ISD.

Hohman earned a master’s degree in special education from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree from Midwestern State University.

Outside of school, Hohman is dedicated to his family. He has been married to his wife, Larisa, also a longtime educator who teaches English IV. They have one son, Catcher, who is about to start 6th grade. The family stays busy with Parker County 4-H, through which Catcher will show his first goat next year. In his free time, Hohman enjoys fishing or riding his Harley to unwind.

Hohman replaces Young Elementary’s previous principal, Lana Coffman, who was recently welcomed as the district’s new director of assessment and accountability.
